Julian Zhu is an artist and dance educator from Auckland, New Zealand. With over 15 years of experience in Bachata, Julian has made a significant impact on the Latin dance scene in New Zealand and beyond. He is the founder of two highly regarded dance schools, FEM Dance and AF Dance, located in New Zealand’s two largest cities.
Before dedicating himself fully to Bachata, Julian worked as a musical theatre actor, performing in shows across China, and later became a choreographer for television programs in Asia. One of his biggest achievements was reaching the semifinals of China’s Got Talent, which earned him domestic fame across China and showcased his exceptional stage presence and creativity.
Julian’s distinctive Bachata style blends influences from Zouk, Salsa, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary dance, drawing on his strong theatrical background. He has also served as a judge for international Bachata competitions and has earned multiple titles in performance contests around the world during his earlier competitive years.
Known for his creative fusion of styles, deep musicality, and passion for connection through dance, Julian continues to inspire dancers globally with his artistry, teaching, and performances.
